Hey, Captain!

Welcome to our League Team Registration Program. We are glad to have you as a captain, and we thank you for bringing your team to USTA NorCal. This registration program is open to anyone who is organizing a team. This may be the captain or the club pro/manager who is registering a team for a club.

There is no fee to register a team. The deadline for registering your team is posted on our web site, Please note that as soon as registration closes we will start scheduling matches based on the teams registered. There is no penalty for canceling a team prior to that date-just contact the office and we will take care of it for you. Any team that pulls out after the office begins scheduling will be subject to Grievance action which may include suspension from league participation. So, please, do not register a team until you know you have a full roster of committed players!

Mixed 2010 captains!  2010 Year End Ratings apply to this league.
Rosters will not be open until after the publication of 2010 Year End Ratings. We expect National USTA to release these by December 4.
If you are depending on a number of players whose ratings are likely to be different, do not register your team now. Wait until you see their new ratings so you know that you have a viable team.

If you have used our on-line program before, welcome back. If this is your first time, we hope you will find this program captain-friendly. All you need to register is a USTA membership, an email address and some reservable courts. Please read these instructions before you proceed. (You may wish to print a copy to refer to as you move through the program.)
 
Step 1: Enter captain information.
Don't worry if you are the team manager or pro or a temporary captain. As long as you are a USTA member you can register your team now. You will be able to change the captain's name at any time during the season.

We do need an email address for each team. This too can be changed during the season.
 
Step 2: Enter co-captain information.
This is optional. Teams are not required to have a co-captain.
 
Step 3: Enter Home Courts
If your team plays under the umbrella of a Community Tennis Association, enter the name of the CTA first.  For example, if your team is sponsored by the Bay City Tennis Association, enter Bay City. Our program will then let you designate the specific location of the courts, and your team name will include both your CTA and your home facility. 

Teams are required to have home courts for the season, with the ability to reserve these courts for league matches, and your team name indicates the location of these home courts.

If your facility is already in our database, you will be able to display it by entering the name. If there is some question about the spelling, (Saint Mary's or St. Mary's?) you can enter just the first six letters and the program will do a search for you.

If your CTA or facility is not in our database, please exit the program and email us so we can add your organization and/or courts to our database. We need to know the name of the organization or facility, the street/city address, and a phone number for a contact person associated with that organization or facility. You will not be able to continue with the registration program until we get these data into our database.
 
Step 4: Select League
Be sure to choose the correct gender and the correct level.
 
Step 5: Your Roster
Please be sure that the team you are forming is in compliance with the Move Up/Split Up rule. There are restrictions on the number of section champion team players who may come together on a team of the same level, or lower, in the following season. When your team is registered, you are ready to start entering your roster. You will have several choices:

Some captains prefer to enter all their players (and collect reimbursement from them later). There is no charge for you, the captain, but be sure to add yourself. We cannot do that automatically, since we have some non-playing captains. Note that there is only one captain freebie per team. Player registration fees are payable by credit card and are not refundable.

Look for the "Add to Roster" option when you log in to your Team Information Page. This allows you to enter more than one player at a time. Remember that players who do not have a valid computer rating will be asked to rate themselves. You should not do this for them unless you are absolutely sure of all the details of their tennis history; it is usually safer to tell these players to register themselves (see below.)

Other captains prefer to let their players enter themselves on the team roster so that each of them pays his own fee. They will NOT need the access code to do this. There is a Player Registration link on your team information page for them to use. This allows a single, individual entry.

New for 2010. The minimum age is 18, not 19. Any player who turns 18 during the year of your team's season is age-eligible to play for your team. There are some CIFNCS restrictions that apply to high school tennis team players. If you are adding a high school team tennis player to your roster, be sure he or she checks with his/her coach.

Many captains like to register their new players so they can go through the Self Rate program for them.

Be aware that, regardless of who does this step, should a player be challenged with a Self Rate Grievance or NTRP grievance, the captain will also be named in the grievance and the captain will be held responsible for the accuracy of the rating. If the grievance is upheld, both the captain and the player will be subject to sanctions.  This means:

1. You should be sure your players rate themselves accurately.
2. If you do the rating for them, be sure you can answer the questions accurately and choose a rating for them that is accurate.
3. If you believe that one of your players is underrated, contact us immediately. We can work with you to correct a rating, and avoid the problems that a rating challenge would bring to you, your player and your team.

Here are two hints to help you with the rating process:

• Anyone who has ever held a racquet for more than 10 seconds is higher than 2.0. 
  
• If you have a player who has never played USTA leagues, that does not make him or her a 2.5. Be aware that a 2.5 rating in the majority of cases may best be described as evanescent. That means it doesn't last very long! For most beginning players, it will disappear after just a few team practices. Be very judicious in rating someone at 2.5, or in accepting a 2.5 player on your team. Carefully consider if a 3.0 rating is more accurate for your newly rated players.
  

Player Registration Fee
There is a $21.00 ($18.00 plus $3.00 processing) player registration fee. It is not refundable. If a player on your roster asks to be removed from the roster (only if he has not played for your team) you can do this by using the Remove From Roster option on your Team Page. The player will receive an $18.00 credit, automatically applied when he joins a future league team. The deadline for removing a player is the posted deadline of the league season.

A player may join more than one team. He will be charged the player registration fee for each team. The only restrictions are these:

• Within an area (for example, East Bay), a player may play on only one team per NTRP level. He may join a 3.0 and a 3.5 team, but not two 3.0 teams or two 3.5 teams.)
• He may join another team of the same NTRP level only if the teams are in different areas. Assignment of teams to areas can occur only after we know how many teams have registered, so a player may have to wait until schedules are finalized and posted on the web before he can join another same-level team.

If there are eligibility problems that block your player's name, you can return to this program when these problems have been resolved and add him at that time. A player's eligibility in both membership and rating is established when it is posted on our web site.

This roster entry program requires that you enter each member of your team by USTA number, not by name. As reluctant as we are to make extra work for our captains, it will insure that you enter the correct Mary Jones on your team. If you are entering your team members in a batch, please have their USTA membership numbers at hand. You can find these quite easily by going to our USTA home page and doing a player search

Don't forget to add yourself and your co-captain to the team roster.

One little purple warning:  When you come to the last step of the team registration process, please allow your computer a little time to process. Pressing the SUBMIT or ENTER key a second or third time while you are waiting will cause the program to duplicate the registration, and you will find yourself captaining more than one team. (if this happens, just send us a quick email and we'll delete the extra team(s).
