SCU RTC Camp
Regional Training Center Player Development Camp at the Eagle Fustar Tennis Academy, August 20-221, 2010
The Regional Training Center (RTC) program is part of the USTA’s expanded efforts to develop future American tennis champions. "The USTA goal is to reach as many talented, aspiring young players and their coaches as possible," said NorCal and former USTA national Coach Steve Devries. "The camps encourage healthy exchanges between national and local coaches. They’ve also provided valuable information for the parents of these players."

Throughout 2010, six RTC Player Development Camps for 8-12 year olds will take place in Northern california, the most recent was held this past weekend at the Eagle Fustar Tennis Academy, named one of 12 official USTA Regional Training Centers in the country.  Brian Eagle and Nick Fustar were among the stellar group of RTC coaches including Lee Hurst, USTA Manager, Talent ID & Development, Daniel Shnapek, Clair Carter, Stephen DeVries, John Hubbell and Mari Maattanen.

The mission of the RTC program and Talent ID is to create a comprehensive system for teaching and coaching which will create successive waves of junior players, ages 12-14, with sound fundamentals, restoring American dominance in the professional and collegiate game. This is a partnership that needs the support of all the coaches and players to become successful.

Participants this weekend included boys and girls born in 1998-2001, Dominic Barretto, Paul Barretto, Jordan Chiu, Sam Gibson, Nicholas Khamphilath, Keenan Mayo, Sam Riffice, Rishab Sardana, Andrew Ton, Andre Xiou, Alexander Keyser, Catherine Bellis, Calli Fuller, Julia Lokey, Jessi Muljat, Stephanie Nguyen, Darya Possokhova and Jillian Taggert.

Martin Blackman, Senior Director, USTA Player Development oversees the RTC program and said, "With sound fundamentals, our juniors have everything they need at the Section and the National level to maximize their potential. NorCal has made a strong start due to the efforts of the NorCal Junior Tennis and Player Development staff."
