USTA Serves is the national charitable foundation of the USTA. The Northern California Tennis Foundation helps to locally promote USTA Serves education grant and college scholarship programs. NCTF can assist in helping to identify qualified applicants deserving of national support and recognition.
USTA Serves is a not-for-profit entity that is dedicated to improving the quality of life among our nation’s youth and people with disabilities. USTA Serves encourages children to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens.
USTA Serves supports organizations that use tennis as a vehicle to help at-risk children finish high school and qualify for college scholarships. USTA Serves targets people from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
In 2011 USTA Serves grants ($990,900), scholarships ($406,000), membership renewals ($89,100), and program support ($196,000) totaled $1,682,000 nationwide. This represents an increase of $565,000 which is noteworthy given the economy last year.
2011 in Northern California:
- 2 grants were awarded to the Northern California Section totaling $20,000, including $10,000 for disabled programs. The support and input of Section staff during the application process is vital and very much appreciated.
- 3 college scholarships were awarded to the Northern California Section totaling $18,000. A minimum of two Northern California recipients is allocated; everyone is encourage to apply.
- $5,616.00 in membership renewals were received for the Northern California Section, of which 50 percent is given back to the Northern California Section to develop and grow community tennis.
2012 USTA Serves Initiatives:
- 400,000 adult USTA members will be receiving notification of grants, scholarship and membership renewals allowing them to see how USTA Serves is supporting their community.
- A capacity-building grant option will be added to the application form for which some programs will be eligible to apply.
- An additional named college scholarship has been added for Rosalind P. Walter in the amount of $10,000 (one male, one female) to be awarded over a four-year period.
- Scholarship levels have been raised from $6,000 to $8,000, to help offset the rising costs of education for college students.
