Jamie Pawid Selected to Receive National Sportsmanship Award

February 9, 2011 02:30 PM

Jamie Pawid is currently ranked #76 in the nation in the Girl's 18s.
Jamie was awarded the sportsmanship trophy at the USTA National Open in Hawaii in addition to finishing 3rd in singles.
Jamie Pawid of Castro Valley has been selected as one of the four recipients of the 2010 Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award. The selection process involves all of the United States Tennis Association's seventeen sections, and this award is a highly prestigious honor that recognizes the outstanding sportsmanship she has displayed in her tournament play.

Jamie has been invited along with one guest to be present at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Newport, Rhode Island, from Friday, July 8, through Sunday, July 10, 2011, for the award ceremonies. This coincides with enshrinement ceremonies into the International Tennis Hall of Fame for some of the world’s greatest tennis legends, including one of this years inductees, Andre Agassi.

Jamie said, "Its a dream to be honored with this award for something that I love to do. Tennis is not just a game to me, it has taught me many life lessons as well. I've learned that you can be an all out competitor, while still being respectful to your opponent on and off the court.

She credits her Coach who is also her Dad as he has enforced these values ever since she picked up a racket. Jamie's mother describes her as a hard worker, self motivated and sure has a drive and love for tennis. Jamie added, "I'm so excited to accept this award in Rhode Island alongside top tennis professionals. Thank you USTA NorCal for nominating me."

USTA NorCal extends enthusiastic congratulations to Jamie on her outstanding sportsmanship and all her many accomplishments in USTA tennis programs. We genuinely appreciate her contributions to the high esteem in which the game of tennis is held.
