2011 Gar Glenney Cup Calif. Junior Team Tennis Championship (15)
After a great weekend of tennis, the 29th Annual Gar Glenney Cup has come to an end and with it, the 2011 summer Jr. Team Tennis League.
The season began back in June with local league play in the 12&U, 15&U and 18&U age divisions. The boys and girls teams who won their league advanced to the Section Championships which were played in Fresno, August 5-7. The NorCal teams who captured the Section title were invited to represent NorCal in the historic Gar Glenney Cup competition to face their counterparts from Southern California.
With a total of 12 teams, over 100 players, competing from NorCal and SoCal, only one section walked away with the Cup.
Congratulations to SoCal who won the event for the third straight year with the final score of 42 - 30. Team NorCal trailed by 6 points going into Sunday's doubles matches, but were unable to make up the ground against their counterparts to the south.
NorCal did have success at certain age divisions, including Girls' 18's and Boys' 18's, while the younger SoCal players seemed to have an edge all weekend long.
Congratulations to all of the summer junior team tennis participants that competed this year. We look forward to taking our Section Champions to Southern California next year as the SoCal section will be hosting the 30th Annual Gar Glenney Cup in 2012.
