Interested in Becoming a Tennis Official?

Simply put, a tennis official is someone who enforces the rules of play on a day-to-day basis at tennis tournaments. Most officials are motivated by a desire to see tennis well played and fairly played at the grassroots level. There are different "types" of officials, read the descriptions and more. Summary of Officiating Duties in NorCal

1.  Friday, June 15, 2013, 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.   The Official's Committee is offering this "Rookie" Class at the Lakeridge Tennis Club, 6000 Plumas St., Reno, NV.  Email Chris Wilson with any questions.  Register online by May 31 for this class; cost is $29. 
 
Cost includes the "Rookie" class and all other officials workshops held during 2013, 2013 membership dues to Northern California Referees & Umpires Association and a 2013 edition of Friend at Court (USTA's Rule Book).
 
Prior to attending a class you must complete:
  1. Background Screening Check (required for all officials, and must be updated every 2 years). Please complete the online Background Screening via this link.
  2. Complete the online Provisional Umpire Exam. The exam references Friend at Court which can also be found online via the link under Resources below.
Upon completion of the Background Screening Check, the Provisional Umpire's Exam, and the Rookie Class, you will be certified as a Provisional Umpire. A Roving Umpire Workshop is the next step, followed by 4 volunteer days at USTA tournaments in Northern California are then required to be certified as a Sectional Umpire.

Roving Umpire Workshop

A Roving Workshop will be held Saturday, June 15, 7:00am to 2:00pm (following the Rookie School) at Lakeridge Tennis Club in Reno. This workshop will begin early in the morning (one hour before the start of play) and will be held at a USTA Adult Tournament. If you are available for the Roving Workshop as well as the Rookie School, please advise.
 
Please note, space is limited for both the Rookie Class and the Roving Workshop.  If these classes fill up, we will schedule the next ones as soon as possible.
