Fit-4-All Adaptive Tennis Programs, Fresno
Sarah Johnson is the director this program that is held at Fresno Pacific University. It has received a USTA grant that will allow it to run Sept. through May. The goal is to provide and promote health benefits through regular physical activity, provide social interaction and tennis instruction, improve participants self-esteem and physical well-being, and provide a fun, interactive, positive environment for people who utilize wheelchairs or have special needs while learning the game and skills of tennis.
Madera County Office of Education
Sandra Kazanjian Gostanian is a credentialed Adaptive Physical Education Specialist who runs the Adaptive Program for Madera County. She is also a USPTA Professional. She works to bring students with a variety of abilities and disabilities together to promote a healthy physical activity.
Break the Barrier's, Inc. Fresno, CA
This non-profit program offering sports and arts for both able and disabled children and adults which is the dream of the founder Deby Hergenrader. BTB became a partner with the USTA in delivering tennis as one of their activities and has receive over $20,000 in grants. They use the Buddy Program when necessary. Always the emphasis is on healthy activity and group enjoyment while learning about tennis. Thousands of adults and juniors participate in the programs which include: martial arts, swimming, gymnastics, art, dancing, weight lifting, American sign language and tennis.
Just Another Tennis Clinic, Danville, CA
Director "JC" Jason Cherry directs a free program for juniors who are interested in sports/tennis. This program meets twice a week and is assisted by high school students who donate their time and knowledge of the game of tennis.
City of Sacramento, Access Leisure
Annie Desalernos, Program Supervisor for the City of Sacramento Access Leisure and Blaze Sports coordinates the city tennis programs for special needs children and adults. The City of Sacramento, Access Leisure offers a variety of adapted sports programs such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair softball, power soccer, Access Aquatics and even a cheerleading team. We also offer you information on where you can participate in wheelchair tennis, adapted waterskiing, white water rafting, dance, drama, the arts, adapted downhill or cross country snow skiing, and adapted weight training for adults.
Through their Paralympics Sport Sacramento Club program is a formal partner with the United States Olympic Committee's Paralympic Division. The US Paralympics Division is creating a nationwide network of Paralympic Sport Clubs to provide sports opportunities for people with physical disabilities. Paralympic Sport Sacramento is proud to offer and/or support these Paralympic Sports: Sled Hockey, Track and Field, Handcycling, Goalball, Quad Rugby, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Tennis and Swimming. BORP, Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program partnered with the Paralymics Sport Program in Sacramento to host a wheelchair tennis clinic in June, 2010. The City of Sacramento Access Leisure programs are open to adults and children with moderate to severe disabilities. Tennis is a popular sport for them. The play days and clinics they host provide families the crucial support they need in finding equipment and education.
