Forest Ranch Camps awarded Community Partnership Investment Grant

USTA has awarded over $400,000 in recreational tennis grants to 45 non-profit organizations across the country.  Forest Ranch Camps in Chico, Calif., is one of the recipients of a Community Partnership Investment Grant (CPI).  The camp is set on 55 beautiful acres an hour and a half north of Sacramento, tennis is offered in addition to other sports and the arts.  During the school year, outreach and tennis programming is offered to the Chico and nearby communities.

Roeding Tennis Club Reinvents Itself

Roeding Park Tennis Club has a long and interesting history. It began in 1891 as a private club with 3 courts in downtown Fresno.  As the years rolled by private clubs were built in Fresno and the area around the Park became increasingly depressed.

Now in the 21st century the Club is alive and well! It’s a proud non- profit USTA Community Tennis Association that works with the City of Fresno to improve it’s tennis center. Because of the dedication of the officers and members of the Roeding Park Tennis Club the park is enjoying new tennis players, club tournaments, and is now known for it’s Chance Draws.

2010 Community Tennis Developement Workshop

Community Tennis Development Workshop

Mark your calendar for the 2010 Community Tennis Development Workshop (CTDW) to be held in San Diego, CA January 22-24, 2010. The CTDW is the largest annual gathering of CTA/NJTL leaders in the country. Attendees will enjoy top notch sessions lead by specialists in their field and networking opportunities with more than 500 grassroots community tennis leaders from across the country.

To increase the scope of the CTDW, the USTA Northern California Diversity Committee and the Adult/Junior Department s are awarding a limited number of partial scholarships to outstanding community tennis leaders who otherwise could not afford to attend.  The application process is now closed and recipients will be notified the week of December 3rd.

2009 National Junior Tennis and Learning Regional Rally

Nearly 400 kids arrived at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on the morning of August 13th expecting a fun day of tennis, prizes, friends and food.  that's exactly what they got at the 2009 National Junior Tennis and Learning Regional Rally !  NJTL Chapters from all over the Bay area and as far as the Monterey Peninsula brought their kids.  USTA Northern California, Youth Tennis Advantage and Kaiser Permanente partnered for a day that was all about the kids.

Introducing the July USTA Northern California Organization of the Month, Hidden Hills Racquet Club.  There is nothing “hidden” in the fact, that whether you come to Hidden Hills to compete, swim or play on one of their many USTA adult league teams, you are sure to find one of the most social and welcoming settings for tennis in the East Bay tennis.  Not only does Hidden Hills support numerous USTA programs, such as Quickstart, they host USTA sanctioned tournaments and support a variety of men’s and women’s league teams.  Picture a sunny day, you’ve just come off the court after your  match or lesson, you can join the social scene out on the deck at Hidden Hills or lounge poolside. Tennis activities for players of all levels and the social, welcoming environment at Hidden Hills has earned them Organization of the Month for July.  Congratulations Hidden Hills!

Gilroy Tennis Club Brings Junior Team Tennis to Town

Volunteers learn the simple techniques of coaching a team.

USTA Community Tennis Coordinator, David Hong, was on hand to kick off the first Junior Team Tennis League in Gilroy.  Volunteer coaches learned the simple rules and practice techniques to ensure a successful summer season.

Community Tennis Associations and USTA Member Organizations all around Northern California are doing an amazing job of bringing tennis to their communities and promoting USTA adult and junior programming. USTA NorCal appreciates our partners in the field and will regulraly feature these organizations and their activities on our website.
