Newsletter #4
January 7, 2008
Hey, Captains,
Just a bit of rain these days. Time to review some of our rules and policies for wet matches. Please keep in mind that the deadline for completing matches is February 17, and that matches not completed by this date count in the standings as losses for both teams. You don’t want this to happen!
To play or not to play:
Who decides a match is rained out?
Who calls a match when it starts to rain?
How do you re-start an interrupted match?
What if only some of your individual teams have started?*
What about an individual match that was forfeited?
How do you reschedule a match?
When does the away team get to claim home court?
How many offers does the home team have to make?
Can we play the match in parts?
All the answers are in the Captain’s Handbook or in the LLAR. Scroll down to Rescheduling, rule #28
*The most difficult situation for all teams is the partly played, interrupted match. This is what we suggest: The two captains set up a new date for completing the match, following the rescheduling rules. Then the captains tell their players that they can try to work with their opponents to set up a time that is good for all of them, and play the match on their own. Any match not completed by the new match date must be played on that new match date. A match not completed by that new date is a retirement. A retirement is entered as a win for the team that shows up, and the scores should be entered exactly as they were when the rain started on the first date.
If you have not given your opponents your phone/cell number, do it now. Email is not too helpful when you are trying to reach someone at the last minute.
