Getting Started

Why Play Tennis?
Because it’s fun.

Need more reasons?  It’s a healthy diversion from life’s stresses. Feel the rewards of practice and persistence every time you hit a great shot. The entire family can play together for a lifetime. Tennis is a safe and healthy way to meet new people. More fun than the gym, tennis burns an average of 498 calories an hour. Friends of different tennis abilities can come together on the court to just hit around.

Net…work. Did you know that tennis is also the ultimate "contact "sport?  There’s no better way to get to know someone socially or for business than to play tennis.

Whether you play with your best friend once a week in a weekend league or with your family, tennis provides a time-efficient, enjoyable way to get in shape and keep up with the people in your life and in your community.

The USTA Northern California Section has a program to fit any game or ability.

Did you just move here looking to meet new people? Are you a recent retiree but hate playing golf?
Did you just graduate from college and want to balance the new job with fitness?
Did you just get a tennis racquet as birthday gift but aren’t sure how to use it?
Want your kids off the computer for an hour, running around a tennis court?

Visit  the Adult, Junior, Collegiate and Wheelchair pages to learn more about the USTA programs that best fit your needs.

Use our Find a Program or Court Search tool for resources in your Community.

Whether you’re an active player looking for some competitive match play, someone who just "hits around" or brand new to the game, we have a variety of ways for you to stay in shape, meet new friends and have fun. Now hit the courts!!
