2011 Herb Cup by USTA NorCal
*Invited players are below
The 2011 Herb Cup Doubles Invitational has been set for Saturday, December 10th. USTA NorCal is delighted to have the Harbor Bay Club in Alameda as the hosting site for this year’s event. The Harbor Bay Club is beautifully landscaped on 10 waterfront acres with views of San Francisco and the shoreline beaches of Alameda. The club is located on 200 Packet Landing Road, Alameda, CA 94502.
This one-day event has been hosted by USTA NorCal for 6 years as an invitational event only. The Herb Cup is named in honor of Peter Herb, who was the Executive Director of USTA NorCal for 40 years, and his family. He was extremely creative and was responsible for many innovations in both junior and adult tennis. He introduced the concept of having different levels of play for juniors and then extended that to adult tennis.
For this event, the top eight players in the 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s, from both boys' and girls' divisions, will be selected and invited after the October 2011 Doubles Final Ranking Lists have been published, which will include doubles results from November 1, 2010 to the last tournament(s) that start in October of 2011. The 10s divisions will be using green level balls. The top four participants from their respective age group will thenchoose their partners within the eight players who have been invited. Each player will receive a NorCal 2011 HERB CUP sweatshirt and player gifts for participating in the event. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the event. There is no entry fee for this event.

The event is a unique round robin with an 8-game pro set with a time limit. All matches will be played for 45 minutes. Once 45 minutes is up, time will be called and all matches will be stopped. Each group of 4 teams from each age division will play a total of three matches. At the end, the winners will be determined based on the number of games that they’ve lost. If there is a tie for first place a head-to-head will determine the winners. If there is a tie with head-to-head, a 10-Point Match Tiebreak will then determine the winners.
