Before You Play A Junior Tournament

Once you have decided to enter a tournament, you must fulfill the following requirements:

1. Choose a Tournament to Enter

Review the different types of tournaments before you select the type of tournament that is most appropriate for your level of play. Be sure to read all of the information on the tournament website before entering. For example, note whether your tournament has a consolation in singles or, if you re interested in playing doubles, whether the tournament director will help you find a partner. Tournaments are required to post information about the event on the website and it is your responsibility to be familiar with this information.

2. Enter the Tournament

To locate a tournament, on the drop down menu under Juniors, click on Tournament Schedule. Once there, choose the level of tournament you would like to play in. Then click on the month in which you would like to enter a tournament, click on the tournament name and then click on Register Now. Remember you must have a current USTA membership to play.

You are limited to entering one singles event, one doubles event, and one mixed doubles event per tournament. If a tournament offers events in more than one level, for example singles events is both the Novice and Open level, you may enter in one singles event, not one Novice singles event and one Open singles event.

3. Familiarize Yourself With The Rules of Tennis

You are expected to know the rules of playing a tennis match, including keeping score and how to play a tiebreak. Each tournament will publish information about its event on the online tournament page including directions to the tournament and start times.

4. Obtain Your Start Time

You are responsible for obtaining the start times for your matches. Tournaments are required to post the draws, including start times, to the online tournament page no later than 72 hours before the start time of the first match of the event. If you cannot locate your start time, call or email the tournament director. The contact information can be found on the online tournament page. Always check the tournament website and your start time the night before you play.

5. Players Unable To Compete

If you are unable to play a tournament or a match, you must notify the tournament director at once. You may be asked to provide your reason in writing. You will be entitled to a refund if you withdraw no sooner than seven days before the start date of the tournament. However, in the case a tournament is rained out before the match is played, the tournament may withhold a $2.00 administration fee per entry.

If you are not able to attend a tournament and do not notify the tournament director prior to the scheduled match start time, you shall be issued a "No Show Default" and suspended from USTA Northern California competition for a period of 30 days. However if a player is issued a No Show default the player shall have the right to appeal, and the suspension shall be delayed pending the appeal. The decision of the Sportsmanship Committee shall be final and binding.
