USTA NorCal Junior Council Conference Call Meeting
Wednesday, February 1, 2006, 1:30 pm
Committee Members Present: Andrea Norman, Chair, Liz Blum, Wendy Chow, Suzy Cossette, John Dicconson, and Rick Kepler were present when the meeting was called to order.
Committee Members Absent: Mark Manning, Jennifer Pitzen, and Francisco Ruiz
USTA Staff Members Present: Jim Coyne
Andrea Norman, chair of the Junior Council, called the meeting to order at 1:38 pm. There being a quorum present, the Committee commenced its business.
National Doubles Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee Proposal:
The Chair announced the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the recommendations made by the National Ad Hoc Committee on enhancing doubles play. All Sections have been asked to review these recommendations and give input in the form of questions, comments, and concerns to the national Youth Competition and Training Committee no later than February 8th.
The Council previously received a copy of the document prepared by the national committee that included the following recommendations:
• Replacement of full feed-in-consolation with a system that guarantees two singles matches per player;
• Development of draw size and sanction period ratios that will require no more than two matches per day;
• Development of a ranking system that recognizes players’ success in singles and doubles; and
• Promotion of the value of doubles play within the coaching community;
The Committee discussed each of the recommendations as well as other topics that related to the recommendations.
After discussion, the Chair announced that she would compile the Council’s input and distribute it to the members for review before submission to the Youth Competition and Training Committee.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 2:59 pm.
