Getting Started - Juniors

Getting StartedJuniors

Whether you’re picking up a racquet for the first time or have been taking lessons for years, the USTA Northern California Section has several exciting tennis programs for junior players. The USTA supports programs that make it easy for players of all ages to learn, play and compete in the sport of tennis, in their community.   Check out the Find a Program search tool for locating tennis programs and events in your community.  Contact the USTA Northern California Junior Tennis Department or call 510 748-7373 for more information or assistance .

Parents, share tennis with your kids!
Parents

Introducing your children to tennis at a young age helps them to develop physically, mentally and socially. They learn lessons inside the lines of a tennis court that they can apply to life outside as well. Tennis is a sport that parents and children can do together for a lifetime, whether rallying a foam ball on the driveway, taking a lesson together, playing a family tournament or enjoying a match while on vacation.

Junior Team Success!Coaches

Whether you’re a tennis professional, a parent or a school coach, you’ll enrich the life of a child through tennis. To learn how to become a tennis coach, or to expand your knowledge and skills, please call USTA Northern California Junior Tennis Department at 510 748-7373.

Junior Team Tennis LeagueUSTA Jr. Team Tennis

Jr. Team Tennis brings kids, most with no tennis experience, together on coed teams to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles against other teams. Jr. Team Tennis promotes camaraderie as well as individual growth. Each practice and team match is full of energy and enthusiasm, a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis is designed for kids ages 6-18. They learn to play the game with age appropriate equipment and smaller courts. Kids are rallying during their first practice and immediately placed on teams. It only takes two teams to form a league. Matches can be held anywhere, a local park, school or club.  Leagues are offered in the spring, summer and fall.  Check the Jr. Team Tennis League page for a listing of current leagues.  Contact the NorCal Junior Team Tennis Coordinator for more information or assistance.

USTA Junior Tournaments

Junior tournaments offer members access to over 200 sanctioned tournaments in Northern California, from Fresno to the Oregon border, including Reno. Whether you are aiming for a local, section or national ranking or looking to for some good exercise while making new friends, USTA tournament tennis is for everyone. Get in the game!

The Junior Tournament Schedules page includes all of the information you’ll need to get started playing tournaments or email Summer Verhoeven, Junior Tournaments .
