2009 Campus Championships

The team from UC Santa Cruz brought their local color.

Tennis on Campus continues to grow across the country and certainly in the Northern California section. Twenty six teams competed this weekend at Stanford University's Taube Tennis Stadium. The prize was a coveted spot at the National Campus Championship. All of the teams showed enthusiasm and camaraderie as they competed in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, using World Team Tennis format.

UC Berkeley Captures 2009 Campus Championship Title

UC Berkeley defeated UC Davis this past weekend at Stanford University to capture the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Campus Championship – Northern California title, and earned an automatic bid to the USTA National Campus Championship in Surprise, Arizona on April 15-17, 2010.

The first annual Battle of the Bay Tennis Classic brings together the top singles and doubles players from Stanford University, University of Cailifornia Berkeley, University of Santa Clara, University of San Francisco and St. Mary's College. Hosted by the historic California Club in San Francisco, October 29 through November 1. Admission is free.

Tennis Week magazine writes about the success of the Tennis on Campus program. Over 500 colleges and universities and more than 30,000 participants compete annually with the hopes of reaching the USTA National Tennis on Campus Championship in April. The future leaders of tennis are coming from these campus programs.

The USTA Tennis On Campus program announced its inaugural Club of the Year Award for the 2008-2009 Tennis On Campus season, awarding the prestigious title to the University of California, Davis Club Tennis Team. The USTA Tennis On Campus program will present UC Davis the award during the 2009 USTA National Campus Championship , to be held April 16-18, 2009, in Surprise, Arizona.

Northern California Tennis on Campus teams dominated the Southern California competition in the 2nd annual California Cup at UCLA, March 7 and 8.
