Robin White won the US Open doubles in 1988 with Gigi Fernandez, having upset the defending champions Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver in the semi-finals. The next year at the US Open, she won the Mixed doubles title with Shelby Cannon, a young man she had never seen before the day they played their first round match. As a youngster, White was an outstanding junior from San Jose who dominated her progressive age divisions. She had learned tennis through group lessons at the YMCA. At Pioneer High School, she played tennis, softball and basketball and was Senior Class president. In her pro career, she won 13 doubles titles and two singles titles, ranking as high as No. 15 in the world.
