Applications for 2012 National USTA Multicultural Grants Program Now Available!

 
Applications for the 2012 National USTA Multicultural Grants Program are now available!
 
The 2012 national USTA Multicultural Grant Applications are now available. Qualified applicants may apply for funding in the following categories. Please note that certain applications are submitted to the USTA NorCal office while others are submitted directly to the National Diversity Office in New York.
 
USTA NorCal Applications- The deadline is November 18, 2011.  Please submit to Silvia Duenas-Bielser at duenas-bielser@norcal.usta.com or by mail to USTA NorCal, 1920 North Loop Rd., Alameda, CA 94502.
A very limited number of these prestigious grants are awarded each year. Applicants are competing against other outstanding players and programs from throughout the United States. Candidates must meet all stated requirements and submit completed applications and attachments. 
 
1. Multicultural Excellence Program Grant ($10,000 and onsite coaching assistance)-awarded to programs with a history of developing tournament level players, as well as producing national or internationally ranked players. 
 
2. Multicultural Individual Player Grant for National Competition & Training ($1000-10,000) - for top 100 nationally ranked multicultural 16 and under players within their age category.

USTA National Diversity Office- the deadline is December 31, 2011.  Please submit to USTA Diversity, Attn: Michelle Kern, 70 W. Red Oak Lane, White Plains, NY 10604 or by email at kern@usta.com.
 
1. Okechi Womeodu Scholar Athlete Grant ($5000, two grants available) - Honors the memory and life of Okechi Womeodu. The eponymous Okechi Womeodu Scholar Athlete Grant will be awarded to two competitive junior scholar/athletes aspiring to achieve national and/or international rankings. Womeodu won his first national title here in Northern California when he captured the USTA Boys 12s National crown at Alameda’s Harbor Bay Club in 2000.  Must have strong national tournament results and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
 
2. Althea Gibson Leadership Grant ($5000) - Honor the memory, life, and achievements of this exceptional pioneer who paved the way for millions who followed. Althea was the first African American to win championships at Grand Slam tournaments such as Wimbledon, the French Open, the Australian Doubles and the United States Open in the late 1950s.

3.  Pancho Gonzalez Scholar Athlete Grant ($2500, two grants available)- Honors the memory, life and achievements of the two-time US Championships men’s singles champion whose dedication to the sport of tennis brought together fans from all walks of life.
